  1. *** Manual of program RUFZ *** @DL4MM    (ex DL3DZZ,Y33UL)

  5. The program RUFZ is simple OFF-line-Contestsimulation. The name RUFZ
  6. is a abbreviation for the german word "Rufzeichen" = call.
  7.  
  8. After start of the program you∩ll get some instructions how to use
  9. the program.
  10.  
  11. followings files on disk:
  12.  
  13. RUFZ.EXE       - executable file
  14. RUFZ.CFG       - configuration file
  15.                  (can be modified if you type <CONFIG> instead of your own call ) 
  16.     changeable: 
  17.                  - password
  18.                       - Initial speed
  19.                  - number of call per attempt
  20.                  - max. number of attempts for each participant
  21.   remarks for password:
  22.                   - the installed password-software is only a simple protection against
  23.                     manipulation of HiScore-list in case of using in a smaller contest.
  24.                     More now is not wanted.
  25.                     In case you have forgotten your password,
  26.                     write blanks in the first line ( Do not delete first line !!)

  28. RFZFILE.DTA    - callsign file
  29.                  contains calls for random generator
  30.                  own calls may be appended, or old calls may be changed
  31.                  ( max. apr. 14.000 Stk.)
  32.                  If you hand over the program RFZFILE.DTA must be
  33.                  the ORGINAL-file. But of course for your own use you may 
  34.                  rename another file into this name.

  36. RFZHSCR.DTA    - Hi-Score-Liste
  37.                  Result-list contains of
  38.                      - Nr. of place
  39.                  - total points
  40.                  - call of participant
  41.                  - number of attempts
  42.                  - max. heard PARIS-speed
  43.                  and a checksum against manipulation     
  44.           In case of a manipulation you can continue after
  45.          type in of password (if active)

  48. RUFZREAD.ME    - this file

  50. Installation: 
  51.  
  52. Please copy files on disk into any directory on harddisc
  53. like    for example C:\AR\SIMUL\RUFZ 
  54. Please make a safety-copy of program-disc.
  55.                 
  56. Start of program: 
  57.  
  58. Type RUFZ at DOS-prompt in the directory RUFZ installed
  59. (not under Windows!)
  60. ATTENTION: Before running of program please remove harddisc-caches
  61. (like SMARTDRV or PC-CACHE) else some problems may occur
  62. at CW-Output !

  65. Function:
  66.  
  67. At the begin of program you have to type in your own call. At this time
  68. you have the possibility to listen in short if you type <TEST>. You may 
  69. change loudness and adjustment of your headphone. Of course you can do 
  70. this as often you like.
  71. After typing in your own call the contest runs. The computer will transmit a 
  72. random-generated call. You type the call you∩ve heard into the keyboard. 
  73. The program continue only AFTER <ENT>. In before you may change the 
  74. call in the editor line.
  75. if the call was right the CW-speed will increase else decrease. The computer
  76. will follow your actual personal performance.
  77. The computer will compute a point-valuation for each call. Depending of
  78. difficulty a different number of points are the maximum of 100%. 
  79. Therefore the speed has a quadratic and the length of the call a linear
  80. influence. For each error in the call the number of points will be the half.
  81. Additional you∩ll loose a few points (only logarithmic influence) 
  82. depending of time needed to type in call. So please, don't be hectic.
  83. After 50 (Default) heard calls the attempt is over, the total score is
  84. displayed in red colour in the right window.
  85. (call, points, max. heard PARIS-speed, nr. of attempts)
  86. Same time you see the total points and max. speed in the upper status line.
  87. After <ENT> you can start a new attempt.

  89. End or program :
  90.  
  91. Enter instead of your own call <QUIT>, but after begin you have to make a
  92. complete attempt.
  93. In a "emergency-case" you may do a "hard" program-abort by 
  94. <CTRL> <BREAK>
  95. But in this case the score will be not saved.

  99. View HiScore-list in program or type <SCORE> instead of own call. 
  100. In the menue  complete results can be viewed or printed or deleted.
  101. Results are also in file RFZHSCR.DTA (and a checksum).

  105. via build in PC-speaker or better switch a headphone parallel to or instead of
  106. the speaker.
  107. Seriell or parallel ports or soundcards are not supported not yet.

  131. Real-time performance on different hardware-configurations not tested in
  132. detail. So please in case of problems or bugs or just only suggestions
  133. please inform author.
